The American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL) is the national professional organization for nurse leaders, representing more than 12,500 members across the care continuum. As the voice of nursing leadership in partnership with the American Hospital Association, AONL provides competency based education for nursing leaders at every career stage, from frontline managers to system executives.

For training and development professionals supporting hospitals and health systems, AONL's Transition to Nurse Manager Practice (TTP) program is built for succession planning. New nurse managers move through four pillars of leadership development: establishing identity, leading the team, owning the role and running the business. Organizations can select the format that fits their needs, including a hosted cohort option in which internal leaders are trained to deliver the program as AONL faculty within their own organization. This train-the-trainer model lets healthcare systems build a sustainable internal pipeline for onboarding new managers rather than relying on outside facilitation for every cohort.
